6.3.1 DNA Sequencin Flashcards
1
Q
What is DNA sequencing?
A
- Allows organisms nucleotide base sequence to be observed
2
Q
Old to new DNA sequencing techniques
A
- Sanger sequencing 1970 (chain termination)
- High throughput sequencing (capillary electrophoresis and nanopore sequencing and pyrosequencing)
3
Q
What is a dideoxynucleotide?
A
- Chain termination method uses these
- Pair with complementary bases of nucleotides on template strand during replication
- When DNA polymerase encounters a dideoxynucleotide the developing strand stops developing
4
Q
What are primers?
A
Short strand of nucleotides with bases complementary to those at the start of the DNA fragment, and allow the copy strand to form which DNA polymerase can bind to
5
Q
What is the chain termination method?
A
