6.18 - Functional Localisation in Brains II: Hierarchical processing Flashcards
1
Q
What are the what and the where pathways?
A
They are thought to be how the brain decomposes the visual image into a place in the world (motion, location) and sematic information (meaning of pictures, sounds and words).
2
Q
What is hierarchical processing?
A
The idea that processing of information proceeds by starting from simple features and assembling more and more complex features.
3
Q
Where are the what and where pathways?
A
What: temporal cortex
Where: parietal cortex
4
Q
Why do we believe functions in the brain are localized?
A
Because we can find activity correlates of specific functions in particular places in the brain.
