Short answer on contraceptive health: Know what types of condoms are safest, and various other methods of birth control that are available for both men and women (pamphlet included).
Make sure to differentiate between what is used to stop the spread of infection, and what is used to prevent pregnancy.
The safest type of condoms are latex and polyurethane condoms, as they are effective in preventing both pregnancy and the spread of STIs. Lambskin condoms can prevent pregnancy but do not protect against STIs.
Other birth control methods to prevent pregnancy include hormonal options like the pill, patch, shot, vaginal ring, and implant (for women), as well as intrauterine devices (IUDs).
Male birth control options include condoms and vasectomy.
Female sterilization (tubal ligation) is also a permanent method.
It’s important to know that only condoms (male and female) help prevent the spread of infections, while most other methods only prevent pregnancy. Using condoms along with another form of birth control (dual protection) offers the best protection.
