Q

Drugs for premature labour

A
  • Nifedipine
  • Salbutamol (but can cause serious cardiovascular events in mother and fetus)
  • Atosiban (antagonist of oxytocin)
  • Indometacin (an NSAID, and NSAIDs inhibit COX enzymes which are involved in prostaglandin synthesis, prostaglandins stimulate uterine contractions therefore providing NSAIDs counteract this) . Care must be given as NSAIDs may cause renal impairment in the neonate
