6-How to take a good radiography Flashcards
What is the goal of a radiograph
A diagnostic image- an image that accurately represents the anatomy of the patient and allows us to make a diagnosis
What does pink camels collect extra large apples stand for?
Position
Centre
collimation
exposure
label
artefact
Why is positioning important in radiographs?
Minimise distortion & magnification
Achieved by having area of interest closest to plate, and central, parallel to the plate and perpendicular to the beam
Why do we collimate
Decrease scatter radiation
Improve image
Decrease patient dose- radiation safety
Why is the correct exposure important
allows us to visualise anatomy correctly
Does mAs affect contrast
No
T/F high Kv reduces contrast
True
What does kV determine
quality or penetrating power of the beam
Number and energy of the x-ray photons
What will the radiograph look like if over/under exposed
Over= black
under- grainy
What does mAs determine
the number of x-ray photons produced
