6: Circular Motion Flashcards
1
Q
Define angular displacement
A
Angular displacement is the angel of rotation of a body about an axis in a specific direction
2
Q
Define angular velocity
A
Angular velocity is the rate of change of angular displacement
3
Q
Equation for Linear velocity
A
L.velocity = radius x angular velocity
4
Q
Eqn for angular velocity
A
angluar velocity = 2 x pi x freq = (2 x pi)/T
5
Q
Define period
A
Period is the time taken for one complete oscillation
6
Q
Define frequency
A
Frequency refers to the number of revolutions per unit time
7
Q
Why must object in cm experience force?
A
- Moving in circles, thus directions always changing and hence velocity always changing
- By N1L; there must be external resultant force on object to change direction
8
Q
Why is centripetal force/ acceleration towards center?
A
- Velocity always changing but linear speed remains constant
- Thus force must be perpendicular to speed so that no work is done on the object’s speed
9
Q
Eqn of centripetal acceleration
A
c.a = v^2/r = r x angular velocity^2= v x angular velocity
