3: Dynamics Flashcards
Define mass
Mass is the property which resist the change in direction
Define momentum
Momentum is the product of the mass and its velocity
p = mv
Define force
Force is the rate of change of momentum
Define impulse
Impulse on the body refers to the product between the force acting on it and the time that the force is exerted
Impulse = Ft
Define N1L
N1L states that a body will remain at rest or constant velocity unless an external resultant force is exerted on the body
Define N2L
N2L states that the rate external resultant force exerted on a body is proportional to the rate of change of momentum of the body;
and the change in momentum is in the direction of the force.
Define N3L
N3L states that when body A exerts a force on body B, an equal but opposite force is exerted by body B on body A.
Define Principle Of Conseravtion Of Linear Momentum
POCOLM states that the sum of initial momentums must be equal to the sum of final momentums provided that there are no external resultant forces acting on the bodies
State the three types of collisions and differentiate them
- (Perfectly) Elastic: NO KE LOST/ Relative speed of approach = relative speed separation
- Inelastic: KE LOST
- Superelastic: KE GAINED
