6 - ACL ASSESSMENT Flashcards
Why ACL rupture rehab / prevention important?
- 35% of athletes do not return to preinjury sport level
- Up to 24% of athletes have second ACL injury within first 5y after ACLR
- Re-injury equally affects reconstructed ligament or contralateral ACL
- Clearly, no optimal rehabilitation protocol and/or optimal return to play process
ACL reconstruction necessary ?
= > Participants with evidence of ACL healing reported better sport/recreational function & kneerelated QoL 2y after injury, compared with non-healed, delayed ACLR & early ACLR groups
- Loss of stability => increased movement => more risk of arthritis
- Decision of doing reconstruction or not, based on age (young), high sport demands (sport
with pivot) & symptoms (lack of stability)
Typical concomitant procedures
