  • Dries dampness, transforms phelgm, and causes rebellious qi to descend: for cough with copious sputum, as in cold-phlemg in the LU. Esp. effective for transforming phelgm due to dampness of the SP
  • Directs rebellious qi downward and stops vomitting for nausea and vomiting due to many causes including cold, thin mucus, ST def., ST heat, or pregnancy
  • Dissipates nodules and reduces clumps: for nodules, pressure, distention or pain due to phlemg lingering in the chest, phlemg nodules in the neck such as goiter and scrofula or obstruction caused by phlemg anywhere in the body. Also for focal distention in the chest and epigastrium

  • Dries dampness and expels phlegm: for cough and a stifling and distended sensation in the chest due to stubborn phlemg. This herb is extremely drying in nature
  • Disperses wind-phlemg and stops spasms: for obstruction due to wind-phlemg, usually in the channels, with dizziness, vertigo, numbness in the limbs, facial paralysis, spasms in the hands or feet, opisthotonos, stroke, seizures or lockjaw
  • Reduces swelling and alleviates pain: used topically for such problems as deep-rooted sores, ulcers and carbuncles. Also for swelling due to traumati injury and joint pain secondary to phlegm. For this purpose, the herb is used in its unprepared form. Recently used topically for cervical cancer.

  • Pushes out pus: for expelling pus associated with LU abscess or throat abscess. The traditional disease of LU abscess is marked by fevers, chest pain, coughing of yellow sputum with a fishy smell, along with coughing up of blood and pus
