5th station - small intestine Flashcards
What types of digestions does the small intestien contain?
Physical: Bile salt in bile secreted by the liver emulsifies lipid into tiny lipid droplets
Chemical:
Pancreatic amylase: starch –> maltose
Pancreatic lipase: lipid–> glycerol + fatty acids
Protease: protein –> peptide –> amino acid
Carbohydrases: disaccharide –> monosaccharide
Background information of the small intestine’s digestive juice
Pancrease, liver, gall bladder are the 3 associated organs which involve in the secretion of different digestive juice into the duodenm to continue the digestion processes. However, not only these 3 associated organs, small intestine (duodenum and ileum) itself also involves in chemical digestion
The feature of intestinal juice
- produced by intestinal glands on the wall of duodenum and the first part of ileum
- do not contain enzymes for chemical digestions
What intestinal juice contains?
- Mucus:
secreted by mucus-secreting cells - Sodium hydrogencarbonate
neutralize acidic chyme and provide an alkaline medium for other enzymes in small intestine work
What are the types of enzymes that are fixed on the cell membrane of intestinal epithelial cell?
carbohydrases: maltase: maltose --> glucose sucrase: sucrose --> glucose + fructose lactose :lactose --> glucose + galactose Protease: peptidase: peptides --> amino acids
