5A Limiting factors in Photosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

How does light intensity affect photosynthesis

A

There needs to be a high light intensity of a certain wavelength

Light energy is needed for the light dependent reaction

Q

How does temperature affect photosynthesis

A

Temperature needs to be abound 25 degrees C as photosynthesis involves enzymes and if the temp falls below 10 degrees the enzyme become inactive and if it rises above 45 degrees the enzymes denature and stomata close and photosynthesis slows down less less CO2 enters the leaf

Q

How does carbon dioxide concentration affect photosynthesis

A

the CO2 concentration needs to be around 0.4% any higher and stomata start to close

Q

How does water affect photosynthesis

A

plants need a constant supply of water - too little and photosynthesis stops - too much and the soil becomes waterlogged and the the uptake of the minerals needed to make photosynthetic pigments is reduced
