53 Blessings and Curses Flashcards
where are the blessings curses found?
Deut 7 & 8Deut 27 - Blessings and Curses of the Mosaic Covenant
blessings are the result of
obedience
curses are the result of
disobedience
the Mosaic covenant is
bilateral - to which Isr aggreed
Jer 11:10 - the rebellion of
Isr and Judah
The law was written on
stone. It was a binding legal agreement - something they had to DO in order to not incur wrath and make sure things went well.
God shows his power and Deity through both…
the blessings and the curses.
It was meant to be
a sign for both the nation of Isr and the surrounding nations. If Isr was blessed in the midst of great problems elsewhere, the other nations would wonder how and be directed to God.
if God cursed Isr…
or the other nations His power and sole Deity would be confirmed in that way as well
New Testament connection:
You would not hang a curse - like a cross around your neck!- The OT law was intended to bring life brings only death. Law cannot change the human heart. Jesus obeyed on our behalf and allowed the law to be written on our hearts as Jeremiah prophesies this in Jer 31:33-34 and Rom 5:5 confirms it
