  1. Know the rules of the sport!
    - can you just run onto the field or do you have to wait to be called in?
    - how much time do you have to assess/treat the player?
  2. Research the common injuries for that sport and how to treat them
  3. Kits and supplies
  4. Equipment, skills, emergency action plan (EAP)

A

Emergency Action Plan
- roles and responsibilities of key personnel in case of catastrophic injury; location of equipment, ambo, access points, local medical facilities (GP surgery, trauma centre, etc)

  • determine if RTS possible or needs to be removed
  • prevent further injury!

What is TOTAPS and what is its significance?

A

T- talk
O - observe
T - touch
A - active - get them to actively move it; if unable then take them off field and immobilise
P - passive - stop if painful/restricted; can do special tests here as well; full ROM + px free for RTS
S - skills test - run/walk/jog/change direction

Significance - gives you a way to determine the severity, need for referral, and ability to RTS
