or certain types of people to migrate (age, education, income/wealth or race)

they closed their factories, offices, theatres, cinemas, etc. and followed their customers and moved to one of the edge cities or a new location along one of the main highway
what was the result of everyone moving out of the central city?
the city centre became deserted no-one went there, it was far too dangerous
what type of people moved back to the central city?
mostly people that were young and highly qualified, often single or couples without children and a high income
what is re-urbinization?
A movement in which the number of people who return to the city increases
what is urban renewal
the construction of luxury apartments in high tower blocks and the conversion of vacant office buildings into homes
what happend as a result of urban renewal
it has resulted in the city again becoming a top location for shops, cafés and restaurants
what is gentrification
a process in wich neighbourhoods undergo dramatic changes when rich people buy and upgrade housing
what was a result of gentrification?
different population groups now living together
is this gentrification good for the entire city?
no because gentrification has not spread beyond downtown and the surrounding neighbourhoods and has made hardly any impact on the rest of the central city
