5.1.2 Plant Tissues Flashcards
1
Q
What is the epidermis?
A
- outerprotective layer
- usually one cell layer thick and lacks chloroplasts
2
Q
Two types of plant tissues?
A
- meristem
- permanent
3
Q
What is the Meristematic tissue?
A
- consists of cell groups that can divide:
Apical, lateral, intercalary meristem
4
Q
What is the shoot apical meristem?
A
- tips of branches
- forms new vertical growth upwards with new branches and leaves
5
Q
What is the root apical meristem?
A
- tip of the roots
- necessary for the growth of the root networks to get into the soil
6
Q
What is the lateral meristem?
A
- secondary growth
- responsible for lateral growth
- growth in stems, branches, and tree trunks
- responsible for growth of bark on trees
7
Q
What is the intercalary meristem?
A
- between mature tissue sections
- responsible for primary growth in monocots
