5 - VLAN Trunking Protocol Flashcards
What is VTP
- VLAN Trunking Protocol * Layer 2 protocol * Used by switches to exchange VLAN configuration information
What VLANs does VTP support?
2 - 1001
What VTP mode would allow a switch to use extended VLAN range up to 4094?
Transparent mode.
What does VTP do if the switch is configured as VTP Transparent mode?
Does not learn VTP information and does not advertise VTP information however it does pass on VTP messages to other switches.
How often do VTP Servers and Clients send periodic VTP messages?
Once every 5 minutes.
What 3 items must be true before two switches will process VTP messages?
- the link between the two switches must be operating as a trunk * the case-sensitive VTP domain names must match * both switches must have the same case-sensitive VTP password Loc: 4632
What is VTP Pruning?
The VTP Server dynamically determines which switches do not have access ports in each VLAN, and prunes (remove) those VLANs from the appropriate trunks to limit flooding. VTP Clients don’t do this. Loc: 4632
What show cmd confirms if two switches are using the same Revision Number?
show vtp status
To erase all configuration on a switch that was part of a VTP domain what two commands do you need to run?
erase startup-config and delete flash:vlan.dat
