What is higher pilgrimage?

A

This is Hajj. It is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest city for Muslims. Hajj is a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey, and of supporting their family during their absence from home.

What Muslims do on Hajj?

A

.Ihram: Muslims dress in two pieces of white cloth, one around the waist, the other around the shoulder. Women also wear white. It shows they are equal.
.hey go to the Great Mosque in Makkah to perform ‘Tawaf’ (seven times circling of the Ka’aba anti-clockwise. The Ka’aba is covered with a black cloth (Al-Kiswah). They say ‘At your command Lord, at your command.’ They raise their hands towards the black stone and touch it if close enough
.They drink water from the Zamzam well, take some home and dip clothes in it to be used in burial.

.Zamzam: Ibrahim brought his second wife Hajar from Jerusalem to Arabia. They ran out of water; she searched for water for her dying son and a spring came up from the sand. Muslims believe it as life-giving qualities. It shows water is vital for life and vital for spiritual life.
.Al-Safa and Al Marwa: As Ismail was dying, Hajar searched for water between these two places. Allah produced the Zamzam well. Muslims show they do not give up when lives are difficult
