What did the Nazis do to reduce unemployment?
RAD, autobahns, conscription, rearmament, invisible unemployed
What was the RAD and when was it introduced
Introduced 1935, The National Labout Service Corps (RAD) were introduced to encourage the spirit of National Socialism whilst also providing Germany with a cheap labour force to reduce unemployment.
Compulsory for men aged 18-25
Who were the invisible unemployed?
People such as women, Jews, prisoners etc who were not included in unemployment statistics in order to make it seem like the Nazis are doing a better job at reducing unemployment
When was conscription reintroduced and what happened as a result
Reintroduced 1935, army grew from 100,000 in 1933 to 1,400,000 in 1939
What was rearmament and what effect did it have
Reduced unemployment by creating jobs in factories in order to re arm the German military

What replaced trade unions?
The German Labour Front (DAF)
What was the purpose of the DAF
Included employers and workers and was supposed to represent the interests of both.
Workers given relatively high wages, job security and social&leisure programmes
What was the Volkswagen scheme and when was it introduced
1938, gave workers the opportunity to buy their own car, although no one received any as in 1939 production shifted to military vehicles.
What was the Strength through joy (KdF) programme
Set up to improve leisure time for German workers and reward them.
Included concerts, sporting events and holidays
What was the beauty of work programme
Set up by the KdF to improve working conditions.
It organised the building of canteens, swimming pools and sports facilities.
What view did the Nazis have of women
Very traditional view.
Women didn’t wear makeup, didn’t work snd didn’t have an interest in politics. Women discouraged from slimming as bad for childbearing.
When was the Law for Encouragement of Marriage introduced and what did it do. How were people rewarded
Introduced 1933 in order to increase Germanys birth rate.
On hitlers mothers birthday medals were awarded to women with large families
What was the Lebensborn (life springs) programme?
Set up to force unmarried women to become pregnant by ‘racially pure’ SS men.

Kinder-children, kuche- Kitchen, kirche- church

School teachers had to swear loyalty to Hitler and join the Nazi Teachers’ League,
All lessons began and ending with the students saluting and saying heil Hitler,

Nazi ideals such as obedience, following the Fuhrer and racial purity etc were enforced.

On 8th November 1938 a Polish Jew assassinated a German in the German embassy in Paris. Goebbles used this as am opportunity for retaliation against the Jews of Germany.
What was the Kristallnscht and when was it?
Anti-Jewish demonstrations organised, involving attacks on Jewish property, shops and synagogues. 9-10 November 1938.

Hitler blamed the Jews for provoking the attacks and fined them 1 billion reichsmarks as compensation for the damage caused.
Jews couldn’t own businesses.
When was the Reich Office for Jewish Emigration established and what did it do
January 1939
Ss responsible for removing Jews through forced emigration.
From April 1939 Jews were evicted from their homes and forces into designated ghettos.
In September 1939, Jews forced to hand in their radio sets so they couldn’t listen to foreign news.
