Q

importance of Fe2+ in haemoglobin

A

haemoglobin protein that carries O2 around the body in blood cells
made up of 4 peptide chains each with Fe 2+ in centre
Fe2+ binds to O2 in haemoglobin causing Fe2+ to temporarily become Fe3+

Q

phosphate ions PO4 3-

A

when attached to another molecule known as phosphate group
DNA RNA ATP all contain phosphate groups
bonds between phosphate groups that store energy in ATP
Phosphate groups in DNA and RNA allow nucleotides to join to form polynucleotides
