5. Application of Aerodrome Meteorological Minima Flashcards
5.1 Pilot Responsibilities
1) Who is responsible for assessing that the meteorological conditions are equal to or better than the minima required for TO/landing?
2) What circumstance may a pilot fly below DA/MDA if conditions are worse than required?
1) The pilot
2) Emergency
5.3 QNH Sources
1) Prior to what point on instrument approach are pilots required to set a valid QNH?
2) What 3 QNHs can the pilot set?
3) When can alternate minima be reduced by 100 ft?
4) What are approved sources of QNH?
5) How long is an accurate QNH valid for?
6) If the pilot uses area QNH, what must occur to hte minima?
1) IAF
2) - Actual aerodrome QNH from approved source
- Aerodrome Forecast (TAF) QNH
- Forecast area QNH
3) When the box is shaded and the pilot has an accurate QNH within 15 minutes receipt , indicating that these minima have been calculated assuming use of TAF QNH.
4) - ATC
- ATIS (except when aerodrome forecast QNH is provided)
- AWIS
- CASA approved meteorological observers
5) 15 minutes from time of receipt
6) Increases by 50 ft, unless the aerodrome does not have a regular TAF service, in which case the minima have already been adjusted by 50ft
