As I’m getting older, in that sense my taste of music can’t follow the trends. However, my current favorite song that’s trending is “Speechless” by Dan and Shay. The reason I choose this song is that me and my younger son plan to sing it together to celebrate my daughter’s wedding this October.
The best part of the song is the lyrics.

Actually, I don’t know about new trending songs, but my family members use the music app named “Spotify” together, and my younger son creates and uploads playlists. Sometimes I listen to new trending music from those playlists. that comes in handy.

When it comes to music, I believe that personal taste is more important. In my case, even though the popularity of hip-hop and rap music, I don’t bother to listen to them.

Yes, I’ve been surprised by songs suddenly rising to the top of the charts. One example is when an old song becomes popular again because it’s used as the OST for the hottest drama.

The initials of my Korean name is ‘psy,’ which I often use as my English name. I don’t remember exactly but at some point, ever since psy’s Gangnam style became a global hit song, whenever I introduce myself as “psy”, everyone starts singing Gangnam style.
- What do you think contributes to a song becoming trendy and popular among listeners?

As you know, Rock and roll in the 1950s, Rock music in the 1970s, Hard rock and heavy metal in the 1980s, among others. Most of all, music reflects the period and leads to various genres’ popularity during different periods. Naturally, if the song is good and the singer sings well, it has been popular regardless of the trends.
- Are there any trends or themes in current popular music that you find particularly intriguing or appealing?

To be honest, I’m not entirely familiar with the songs that younger generations like these days. However, when it comes to K-pop, it appears that pretty and handsome idol groups are the trend. They are good at singing and dancing, and they also get a sense of entertainment. Additionally, some members are skilled in foreign languages, which adds to their global appeal.
- Do you think the internet and social media play a significant role in the rise and spread of trending songs?

I think that’s true. Being popular in any part should be a lot of exposure to the public. So, the Internet and social media can have a lot of influence playing a significant role in the rise and spread of trending songs.
