Secure the structure (by locking it) or request dispatch to call the on-call company to secure the structure (if officer is not able to secure it properly).
Who does the department notify to secure the structure should an officer not able to secure it properly?
LVMPD Risk Management has an agreement with an on-call company that will respond to secure a structure. The Property owner will be billed directly by the on-call company for service.

a. Respond to the scene, confirm with the Patrol Officer that the death appears to be suspicious or the result of homicide
b. Ensure Crime Scene Analyst(s) have been requested
c. Ensure detectives from Homicide have been notified
Regarding Homicides, who is responsible for completing the case reports?
Responding detectives from Homicide. Patrol Officers will NOT begin the Crime Report or MFR Case Report on Homicides or Suspicious Deaths unless instructed to by the detective.
Regarding Responses to dead bodies other than homicides, in-custody deaths, suspicious deaths officer will upon arriving at the scene determine the death to be other than a homicide, an in-custody death, or suspicious circumstances, and?
a. secures the scene, gathers witnesses and related information
b. notifies the clark county coroner’s office via communication
c. photographs
d. maintains presence at the scene until no longer needed by the Deputy Coroner Investigator
e. Completes the Dead Body Incident Report by the end of the shift. The narrative portion will be detailed as this may be the only documentation of the death
What are the Supervisor responsibilities regarding response to dead bodies other than homicides, in-custody deaths, suspicious deaths?
- responds to the scene (unless the death appears to be natural), confirms w/the patrol officer the death is not suspicious or the result of a homicide
- ensure crime scene analyst(s)have been requested to on all suicides, overdoses and other deaths that are not considered “not natural”
- ensures the deputy coroner investigator has been requested
- ensures the dead body incident report is complete
- when detectives from homicide respond to the scene and assume investigative responsibility, the detective(s) will completed the case reports
