What does Priests Do?
baptize babies
preside over wedding ceremony
hear confessions
give blessings
act as pastors by taking care of our spiritual well being
give spiritual guidance and counseling
The most important activity that priests do is the celebration of the Holy Eucharist
priests teach the truth of Faith not simply by preaching but most importantly by the kind of life they live
Teaching
priests lead the faithful to the holiness of life by administering the sacraments, most especially the Holy Eucharist. The celebration of the Holy Mass is the highlight of a priest’s day, his most important duty is to celebrate it.
Sanctifying
priests are the leaders in the parish community but their leadership is not one where they “lord it over” the members of the parish. Priests are the servant leaders, that is, like Christ, they serve the community, especially those who are in great need
Governing
Priests perform three important tasks as shepherd of God’s people namely:
•To offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
•To preach the Word of God
•To serve God’s people humbly and faithfully
Call to a Life of Service
•Priests give themselves to Christ and His Church in love and service.
•God grants upon their reception of the Sacrament of Holy Orders an indelible effect of his ministry
•the priest’s relation to the Church flows from his configuration to Christ precisely as Head and Shepherd and Hiss Pastoral Charity
