Human Research Ethics:
CONFIDENTIALITY - which legislation + date?
DECEPTION
DEBRIEFING
CONSENT
Data Protection Act (2018)
you can pretty much guess the reasons for this
like talk about their rights and shit
only reasonable to use is that benefits out-weight the cost + able to revert back in debriefing
give as much info as possible about the study that doesn’t hinder the methodological process too much
meant to re-create the condition they entered
use of deception = debriefing on missing info
in case of decline = still give the offer
made aware of all possible harm + liability insurance to cover possible damages in their future life
vulnerable groups: trauma, substance abuse require ample time for a decision + respect their autonomy/dignity at all times
MENTAL CAPACITY ACT [MCA] defined 16 = adult -> fine with sole consent [low risk study] but needs to be 18 or informed consent from guardian to proceed.
Practice Guidelines:
SAFE GUARDING
RIGHT TO WITHDRAW [RTW]
MENTAL CAPACITY ACT [MCA]
CONFIDENTIALITY
prioritize child’s safety over parents interest + they should be co-operative towards parents unless child safety is inconsistent
knowledge/understanding of services to give kids in need
use any actions to aids a child exposed to any form of abuse [mental, psychical, substance]
P’s are always have RTW whenever they want without penalty even more for vulnerable groups
psychologist personal/professional [structural changes] will work to ease transition + give as much notice.
MCA [2005] - individuals who lacks capacity
- offer range of decisions
- always best interest in mind [mind, body, spirit]
- consult appropriate ppl, relation to the decision + individuals wishes are considered
for whatever reason psychologist use your data will need to ask your permission with the full information [intent] to make an unbiased decision as much as possible
AFTER DEATH: unless P’s require confidential, relatives need confirmation of death, kinship, their right to access certain files.
