What is communication?
It is the exchange of information between a sender and a receiver and the inference of meaning between participants.
What is organisational communication?
The process by which organisationally relevant information is transmitted with the aim of
- making impact on the receiver’s attitude/behaviour
- syncing all aspects of the org. together
- clarifying organisational goals, activities, aspirations, etc. to everybody.

Interpersonal communication (between/among individuals)

It is the degree of pleasure an employee derives from his or her job.
Define selective attention
Selecting and focusing on particular input while simultaneously suppressing irrelevant information.

Information (means for understanding organizational roles)
Planning and control (serves to clarify duties and establish authority and responsibilities)
Motivation (serves as a stimulus that could elicit cooperation among members and commitment to organizational objectives)

It’s a situation where messages are conveyed without words.

Downward (from superiors to subordinates)
Upward (from subordinates to superiors)
Lateral (Between/among people who do not have direct authority over each other)
*lateral can be horizontal or diagonal
Define hearing and listening as communication skills
Hearing is registering stimuli based on sound.
Listening is paying attention to what is heard, registering it and remembering.
Active listening skills and skills in the provision of feedback
eye contact showing interest in what is being said avoid distracting actions/gestures ask relevant questions try to control your emotions paraphrase do not overtalk avoid interrupting the speaker
