4b Electrical Symbols Flashcards
Cell
A single electrical energy source using chemical reaction.
Battery of Cells
A series of cells combined to increase electrical output.
Power Supply
Provides electrical power to a circuit.
D.C. Power Supply
Provides direct current electrical power.
A.C. Power Supply
Provides alternating current electrical power.
Fixed Resistor
Limits the flow of electric current in a circuit.
Variable Resistor
Allows for adjustable resistance in a circuit.
Thermistor
A temperature-dependent resistor, changing resistance with temperature changes.
Light-Dependent Resistor
Changes resistance based on the light intensity falling on it.
Heater
Converts electrical energy into heat.
Potential Divider
Divides voltage within a circuit.
Transformer
Changes the voltage from one circuit to another through electromagnetic induction.
Switch
Opens or closes an electrical circuit, controlling the flow of current.
Magnetising Coil
Creates a magnetic field when current passes through it.
Earth or Ground
A reference point in an electrical circuit from which voltages are measured, and a return path for current.
Junction of Conductors
Indicates wires that are electrically connected.
Lamp
Converts electrical energy into light.
Motor
Converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
Generator
Converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
Ammeter
Measures the current flowing through a circuit.
Voltmeter
Measures the electrical potential difference between two points in a circuit.
Diode
Allows current to flow in only one direction.
Light-Emitting Diode
Emits light when current passes through it in the proper direction.
Fuse
Protects circuits by breaking the circuit if current is too high.
Relay Coil
An electromagnet that opens or closes contacts in another part of the circuit.
