Functions
The role a place plays for its community and surroundings. Larger places often provide regional, national, or global functions. They can grow disappear, and change overtime.
Characteristics
The physical and human aspects that help distinguish one place from another.
Gentrification
Renewal, renovation, or rebuilding of older and deteriorating buildings in order to create more up-market places for middle-class residents to live, often displacing poorer residents.
Studentification
Students cluster in certain areas of larger towns and cities in places offering higher eduction provisions.
Why do places change?
Transport, proximity to other cities, demand for housing, affluence, attractiveness, government schemes (HS2), regional airports.
