47 MLB Propulsion System Flashcards
47 MLB Engines
Two Detroit Diesel ElectronicallyControlled (DDEC) 6-cylinder, 2-stroke, turbo-charged, after-cooled marine diesel engines to DDEC 6V92TA
The engine rating is
435 horsepower at 2100 RPM.
Engine Rotation
Right-hand rotating as viewed looking aft from the front of the engine
Coolant capacity
12 Gallons
L/O Capacity
5.5 gallons of 40-weight 2104D
Drive Shafts
The Cardan shaft passes through a water restrictive rubber seal clamped on each side of Bulkhead 5.
Reduction Gears
Reintjes WVS 234 UP Marine Reduction gears located Gears in the Survivors compartment to port and starboard of the fuel tank between Frames 6 and 7
Reduction Gear Ratio
The reduction ratio is 2:1 in forward and reverse
Reduction Gear Control Valve
An electronically actuated control valve mounted at the gear box controls valve gear function as affected by the DDEC system
Reduction Gear L/O
The gear uses 7.1 gallons of 30-weight lubricating oil for clutch-applied pressure and lubricating
Reduction Gear Normal Operating Temps
A temperature regulating valve and gear oil cooler maintain oil temperatures between 140-176 degrees F
Reduction Gear Oil Cooler
The cooler is supplied with raw water from the engine raw water system
R/G Normal disengaged pressure
58 to 66 PSI
R/G Normal Clutch-Applied Pressure
230-290 PSI
If R/G apply pressure is lost?
The gear is fitted with a come-home device. It is engaged by mechanically locking the clutch together with set screws
