4.6.4 Conservation and Farming Flashcards
What modern farming practices have recently begun to produce a higher yield?
Fields are made bigger, use of pesticides and fertilizers, growing cereal crops, farms are more specialised, and the land is made more arable.
What do modern farming practices impact?
The level of biodiversity present in farming areas.
What do conservationists do to maintain or improve biodiversity around farmlands?
Remove all human interference and reintroduce native species, and farm organically.
What effect does draining and fertilising land have?
Decreases the species richness.
Why do farmer drain and fertilise land?
Plant species with the highest quality grazing (grassland) for animals only grow on that land.
