4.6 Circulatory System Flashcards
Red blood cells
Transports blood throughout the body
Plasma
Yellowish liquid that’s part of the blood. Contains water food minerals and wastes
Haemoglobin
THE red pigment in red blood cells
Oxyhaemoglobin
Haemoglobin with oxygen molecules attached
White blood cells
Cells that fight bacteria
Platelets
Healing and clumping together around a wound
Circulatory system
Circulates oxygen in blood to all the cells of all the body
Arteries
Blood pumped away from the heart
Veins
Carrys blood to the heart
Oxygenated blood
Bright red blood cell
Deoxygenated blood
Oxygen has been removed from blood
Vena cava
Large vain leading into the top right chamber of the heart
Left atrium
Where oxygenated blood from the heart enters
Right atrium
Where deoxygenated blood enters
Left ventricle
Pumps oxygenated blood to all parts of the body
Right ventricle
Pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs
Valves
Allow liquid to flow in one direction only
Blood pressure
Measures how strongly the blood is pumped through the body.
Capillaries
Tubes carrying blood to body cells
Lub dub
The sound made by the heart.
Systolic pressure
THE higher blood pressure reading during contraction of the heart muscles
Diatonic pressure
THE lower blood pressure reading during relaxation of the heart muscles
