Elastic Clause

A

Congress can “make all laws which shall be necessary and proper” for carrying out its specific duties. Gives Congress powers to pass laws that are necessary for the country’s good.

A

A standing committee is permanent and are comprised of one house only. A joint committee is made up of people from both houses.
They study proposed bills to see whether any should be considered or not

Electoral college

A

Every state has a set number of electoral votes. A candidate who wins a state takes all the electoral votes of the state. It is controversial because it is possible for a candidate to win the popular vote but still lose the electoral vote.

District, appellate, and supreme court

A

A district court makes the first ruling regarding a case. The appellate court reviews cases if people aren’t happy with the decision. The higher level would be the Supreme court. The last two get to choose which cases to review.
