4.3.9 Variation: t-test Method Flashcards
1
Q
What does the T test do?
A
- Compare means of 2 sets of data
2
Q
Conditions for a t-test to work?
A
- Normal distribution
- Continuous data
- Standard deviations of the data should be roughly equal
3
Q
Steps to carrying out a T test
A
- Null and alternate hypothesis
- Calculate mean for each data set
- Standard deviation for each data set
- Plug SD into t-test formula
- Calculate degrees of freedom v = (n-1) + (m-1)
- Read off data table like you would in stats
- If T value greater than critical value, then the difference between the 2 means is significant, reject null hypothesis, accept alternate hypothesis
- State conclusion
