4.3.4 Classification of the Five Kingdoms Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 5 kingdoms
A
- Prokaryota
- Protocista
- Fungi
- Plantae
- Animalia
2
Q
Prokaryota Kingdom Notes
A
- Bacteria (blue green bacteria too)
- Unicellular
- Cell walls and cytoplasm (not the same as in eukaryotes)
-Divide by binary fission - Blue-green bacteria are autotrophic (photosynthesise)
- Some bacteria are heterotrophic (feed by decomposing organic material)
3
Q
Which kingdoms are classified within the domain Eukarya?
A
- Protocista
- Fungi
- Plantae
- Animalia
(prokaryota is the only one that isn’t)
4
Q
Protocista kingdom notes
A
- Eukaryotic
- Single celled or small group of similar cells
- No cell wall
- ALGAE possess similar cells to plants, contain cellulose cell walls and chloroplasts
5
Q
Fungi kingdom notes
A
- Eukaryotic
- Non-cellulose cell walls (chitin)
- No cilia
- Heterotrophs (digest dead/decaying matter, or by being parasites on live organisms)
- Reproduce using spores
- Unicellular or as hyphae (threads of cells growing from main colony of fungus forming a network of filaments called MYCELIUM)
- Larger ones have fruiting bodies releasing spores
6
Q
Plantae kingdom notes
A
- Eukaryotic
- Multicellular
- Cell walls of cellulose
- Vacuoles
- Can specialise to form tissues and organs
- Chloroplasts
- Can have flagella
- Autotrophs
- Complex body forms
7
Q
Animalia kingdom notes
A
- Eukaryotic
- Multicellular
- Differentiate
- Temporary vacuoles like lysosomes
- No cell walls
- Can have cilia
- Heterotrophs
- Nervous system and chemical signalling
