4.3 Projectile Motion Flashcards
What is projectile motion?
Refers to the movement of either an object (shot/shuttle) or the human body as it travels through the air.
What are the 3 factors that affect the horizontal displacement of a projectile?
-Angle of release
-Velocity of release
-Height of release
What is the angle of release dependent on?
Height of release and landing.
Where release height and landing are the same, the optimum angle is….
45 degrees
Where release height is greater than landing height, the optimum angle is….
Less than 45 degrees.
Where release height is below landing height, the optimum angle is…
Greater than 45 degrees.
How does the velocity of release affect horizontal displacement?
An increase in velocity will increase horizontal displacement.
How does the height of release affect horizontal displacement?
An increase in the release height will increase horizontal displacement, e.g. The taller the shot putter the more advantage they have.
What are the 2 factors affecting flight paths of different projectiles?
Weight and air resistance
What are the 2 parabolas that weight and air resistance determine?
-A true parabola
-A distorted parabola
