What is standing position for ?
To assess posture, balance & neurological disorders
Orthopedic examination
What is sitting position for ?
Allows visualisation of upper body & assess vital signs
What is recumbent/supine position for ?
- To prepare patient for physical examination; chest & abdomen
- To immobilise after some procedures; lumbar puncture
What is prone position for ?
- To reduce pressure on back
- Promote drainage from mouth
- For clients after anaesthesia to prevent aspiration of saliva
What is semi-prone position for ?
- To promote drainage from mouth
2. Reduce pressure at back, nurse unconscious patient
What is lateral position for ?
- Prevent pressure sore
2. Prepare patient for rectal examination/enema
What is fowlers position for ?
- To relieve breathing difficulty
- Relieve tension on abdominal sutures
- Promote wound drainage
What is trendelenberg position for ?
- Examination/operations of pelvic organs

- Insertion of catheter
- When giving bed pan
