4.3, 4.4, and 4.5 Backup, Recovery, and Safety Flashcards
Backup
The process of creating and storing copies of data to protect against data loss
Recovery
Restoring data backup during data or system loss
Full backup
A file containing all the data from the original source
Incremental backup
Only copies data that has been modified since the last backup
Differential backup
Backs up all data that has been changed since the last full backup
Synthetic backup
A sort of subsequent full backup that compares to the previously backed up data on the storage and uploads only the current changes from the backup source
How are synthetic backups beneficial?
Because they don’t use up server resources by doing a lot of read/write operations
Archive attribute
The archive flag is set to ‘on’ any time a file is mkodified
Which backup/s clear archive flags
Full and incremental
Which backup does not clear archive flags?
A differential backup
Describe how the grandfather-father-son backup scheme works
Son tapes - store most recent data; shortest retention period
Father tapes - middle generation
Grandfather tapes - longest retention period; most amount of tapes
What is the 3-2-1 rule?
There should be 3 copies of the data (including production copy on servers), two different types of media, and one copy offline and off-site
When can a backup be called good?
When it has been tested that it works
Surge
Unexpected increase in the voltage being provided
Spike
A sudden increase in voltage that lasts for less than three nanoseconds
