4.2 Physical And Human Processes Flashcards
Compare the weathering that is found in the uplands and lowlands
Uplands freeze thaw weathering is more common as there is lots of rain fall and the nights get really cold and are most likely freeze
Lowlands chemical weathering and biological weathering
Compare the soil/rock movement processes in the uplands and lowlands
Uplands lots of rockfalls occurs because scree fragments are unstable and move easily rainwater can also add weight and lubrication
Lowlands soil creep (rain dislodging soil parting)
Compare misfit rivers and dry valleys (location, characteristics, formation)
Misfit rivers are found in the bottom of u shaped valleys because of the glacier which form the big u shaped valleys and they are little rivers
Dry valleys are dried up rivers which used to be rivers flowing on chalk which was frozen with water making it impermeable after climate change unfroze it and made the water seep through
Explain how glaciers have affected both landscapes
Uplands glaciers have created deep u shaped valleys and hollows that are filled with misfits
Lowlands glaciers have eroded little dome hills and remove anticline but also made their rivers which don’t flow there any,ore due to climate change
Explain 2 ways humans have affected the upland landscape
Footpath erosion (tourism) Sheep farming (no vegetation causing floods and the need of stone walls)
Explain 2 ways humans have affected the lowland landscape
Crop farming (deforestation) Settlements (housing causing less chance of flooding)
Compare which landscape (up/low) have been affected more by humans
Lowland as they build lots of houses and crop farming meaning deforestation
Upland have sheep farming and tourism but it isn’t as destructive
