Christian Faith Schools
Shepherd and Rogers
They carried oit an analysis of Christian Faith Schools, which were allowed to select students based on parental faith.
The results showed that these schools take a lower proportion of working class students than their catchment area suggests they should: ‘England’s faith schools on average are failing to mirror their local communities by shunning the poorest pupils in their area.
This was deduced by the much lower proportion of FSM (Free School Meal) pupils christian faith schools had as compared to its non religious counterparts.
The 11 state funded Muslim schools were however much more reflective of their community.
However, McCormack said that because there was a “cultural stigma” attached to claiming free school meals, fewer than the expected number of pupils were reported to be on the benefit.
