4.2 Equilibria Flashcards
Kc=
[products]^x /[reactants]^y
A + B 2C
Initial Moles: 1.0 1.0 0
Equilibrium Moles: 0.4 X Y
What is the value of X and Y?
X = 0.4 Y = 1.2
How does a catalyst affect the Kc?
No effect, because it increases both sides of the equilibrium by the same amount, so it have no effect on the Kc
How does the concentration affect the Kc?
(At a constant temperature) has no effect on the Kc. If you increase the concentration of a substance the Kc will theoretically be affected. But the Kc must remain the same at constant temperature, so the concentrations change to keep the equilibrium constant the same.
How does an increase in temperature affect an exothermic reaction?
It reduces the Kc
How does an decrease in temperature affect an exothermic reactions?
It increases the Kc
How does an increase in temperature affect an endothermic reaction?
It increases the Kc
How does an decrease in temperature affect an endothermic reaction
It reduces the Kc
What is Kc?
The equilibrium, constant calculated for equilibrium concentrations for a system at constant temperature.
