4.2 - Energy, Power and Resistance Flashcards
What is EMF
Electromotive force of a supply is the energy gained per unit charge by charges passing through the supply, when a form of energy is transferred to electrical energy by the charges. It is measured in Volts or Joules per Coulomb
What is Potential Difference?
The energy transferred per unit charge to a component by the charges passing through the component. It is measured in Volts or Joules or Coulomb
What does Ohms Law state?
It states that the current through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across it, provided that the physical conditions remain constant.
What is Resistivity?
The measure of how much a particular material opposes electron flow. Measured in Ohm Meters
What is Resistance?
A property of a component that regulates the electric current through it. Measured in Ohms
What is Power?
The rate of doing work. Measured in Watts
What is a Kilowatt-hour?
1000 watts for 3600 seconds so 3,600,000J
