4.2 Flashcards
What is nitrogen fixation?
The process where nitrogen gas is turned into ammonium.
What is nitrification?
The process where ammonium is turned into nitrates.
What is dentrification?
The process where nitrates are turned to nitrogen gas.
What are the inputs and outputs of photosynthesis?
Light energy is the input and chemical energy is the output.
What are the inputs and outputs of cellular respiration?
Chemical energy is the input and ATP is the output.
What organisms photosynthesize?
Plants
What organisms preform cellular respiration?
Animals and plants.
How do humans affect the carbon and nitrogen cycles?
We burn fossil fuels.
How does BTB work?
It is blue when there isn’t any carbon dioxide and turns yellow when there is.
What is similar between the ways carbon and energy flow through a food chain?
When going through photosynthesis, consumption, biosynthesis and decomposition, they go together.
What is different between the ways carbon and energy flow through a food chain?
When an organism does cellular respiration, the carbon goes to the atmosphere and the energy turns into heat energy.
If a plant in alone in BTB in the dark, what color will the BTB be?
Yellow
If a snail and plant are in BTB in the light, what color will the BTB be?
Blue
If a plant is alone in BTB in the light, what color will the BTB be?
Blue
What is the name of the process of carbon and energy going from the sun to plants?
Photosynthesis
What is the name of the process of carbon and energy going from herbivore to carnivore?
Consumption
