4.1 Notes Part 2 Flashcards
The method used to gather the sample from the population
Sampling Designs
Attempts to contact every individual in the entire population
Census
Often not a good idea if the population is too large
Census
Cost Protective and Time Intensive
Census
Every experimental unit that has the same chance of being picked for the sample
Simple Random Sampling (SRS)
Divided population into groups with something in common
Stratified Random Sample (STRATA)
Selecting random and additional experimental unit that is selected at a predetermined interval
Systematic Random Sample
Population is broken down into groups and all members are taken as the sample
Cluster Sample
Used for large populations
Multi-Stage Sample
Chooses itself by responding to a general appeal
Voluntary Response Sample
Selecting individuals that are easiest to reach/contact
Convenience Sampling
3 types of bias in a sample
Undercoverage
Nonresponse
Response Bias
Excluded groups/individuals that should be in a sample
Undercoverage
Those in samples are already chosen but choose not to answer
Nonresponse
Leading questions that might result in a certain response
Response Bias
