4.1 Congruent Triangles Flashcards
Equilateral Triangle
An equilateral triangle has three congruent sides
Congruent Triangles
If triangle ABC is congruent to triangle PQR, then there is a correspondence between their angles and sides such that corresponding angles are congruent and corresponding sides are congruent
Isosceles Triangle
An isosceles triangle has at lease 2 congruent sides
Scalene Triangle
A scalene triangle is a triangle that has no congruent sides
Acute Triangle
An acute triangle has 3 acute angles
Equiangular Triangle
An equiangular triangle has 3 congruent angles, each with a measure of 60 degrees
Right Triangle
A right triangle is a triangle with exactly one right angle
Obtuse Triangle
An obtuse triangle has exactly one obtuse angle
Vertex
The vertex is the intersection point of the 2 sides of an angle
Opposite Side
In triangle ABC, side BC is opposite angle A
Adjacent Side
In a triangle or other polygon, 2 sides that share a common vertex are adjacent sides
Legs of a Right Triangle
In a right angle, the sides adjacent to the right angle are the legs of the triangle
Hypotenuse of a Right Triangle
In a right triangle, the side opposite the right angle is the hypotenuse of the triangle
Legs of an Isosceles Triangle
In an isosceles triangle with exactly two congruent sides, the congruent sides are called the legs
Base of an Isosceles Triangle
In an isosceles triangle with exactly 2 congruent sides, the non-congruent sides are called the base
