alcohol abuse
Antabuse- used in aversion therapy to treat alcoholism. prevents body from breaking down alcohol; hangover symptoms.
heroin addiction
Methadone- treat addicts as long term alt to heroin. reduces crime (legal alternative)
sex offenders
Stilbestrol- chemical castration. female hormone that supresses testosterone as a way of reducing sex drive. serious side effects: breast development+feminisation +psychiatric disorders.
managing prisoners
sedatives/tranquilisers; Valium, Librium, Largactil= keep troublesome prisoners calm
diet
alter anti-social behavior. Gesch et al.= supplementing prisoners’ diets with vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids= decrease in anti-social behaviour (37%.) Vitamin B3 - treating certain schizophrenia. reducing the risk of offending.
surgery
surgical castration + lobotomy. modify offenders’ brains/bodies to prevent further criminal behaviour + schizophrenia+ addressing sexually motivated or violent crimes.
