The use of ICS is mandatory on all
incidents involving 5 or more units
Command procedures are designed to accomplish the following
Fix the responsibility for command
Ensure that strong, direct, and visible Command is established as early as possible
Provide a system for the orderly transfer of Command
Outline the activities and responsibilities of command
The Ic must assume responsibility for the following
Provide for safety of all personnel
Remove, protect and treat occupants
Stop fire or hazard
Conserve property
The first arriving unit shall transmit a brief initial radio report including
Unit indentification on scene
Building description ( occupancy, size, construction)
Obvious conditions and initial tactics
The relieved officer will brief the officer assuming command, indicating the following areas
- General situational status including a) threats to life b) current conditions, and c) effectiveness of control efforts
- Deployment and assigments of operating companies
- Appraisal of needs for additional resources at the time
Subdividing shoud occur in either of the following conditions
The incident is developing such that it will eventually involve a number of resources or functions beyond an effective span of control
Companies are becoming involved in complex operations
Incident requires close control of companies
Divisions may be designated as follows
Dierctions ( i.e. North, South)
Area (i.e. Roof, Parking Lot A, Beaches)
Floor Number (i.e. Div 1, Div 2, Div 3)
Groups are designated by
Functions (i.e. Vent group, EMS group, Water supply)
The safety of personnel
is the main reason for subdividing an incident
