4- Stage Three- Krebs cycle Flashcards

1
Q

outline the steps of the Krebs cycle

A
  1. acetate is removed from Coenzyme A and combined with oxaloacetic acid, forming citrate
  2. citrate is decarboxylated and dehydrogenated making a 5C compound, these 2H+ ions are used to produce NADH
  3. the 5C compound is decarboxylated and dehydrogenated again, forming a 4C compound producing 1x C02 and 1x NADH
  4. phosphate is removed from the 4C molecule to produce an ATP- substrate-level phosphorylation
  5. the 4C molecule is dehydrogenated again, releasing 2x H+ ions reducing FAD
  6. one more dehydrogenation occurs, producing oxaloacetate
