4- Stage Three- Krebs cycle Flashcards
1
Q
outline the steps of the Krebs cycle
A
- acetate is removed from Coenzyme A and combined with oxaloacetic acid, forming citrate
- citrate is decarboxylated and dehydrogenated making a 5C compound, these 2H+ ions are used to produce NADH
- the 5C compound is decarboxylated and dehydrogenated again, forming a 4C compound producing 1x C02 and 1x NADH
- phosphate is removed from the 4C molecule to produce an ATP- substrate-level phosphorylation
- the 4C molecule is dehydrogenated again, releasing 2x H+ ions reducing FAD
- one more dehydrogenation occurs, producing oxaloacetate
