Chord Sequence
A series of chords that are played in a pre-planned order.
Bass Line
The lowest-pitched part in any accompaniment, usually played on a bass guitar. It is often punchy.
instrumentation
The choice of instruments or sounds used in a piece of music. Voices also count as an instrument.
Harmonising
Playing/Singing a part with a similar shape to the main melody, often using notes from the same chord.
Secondary chords: ii and vi
Minor chords ii and vi, which make a chord sequence more interesting that just using chords I, IV and V.
Perfect Cadence
A cadence is an ending. A chord sequence that ends V-I sounds complete - this is a perfect cadence.
Imperfect Cadence
A cadence is an ending. A chord sequence that ends I-V sounds incomplete - this is an imperfect cadence.
Primary Chords
The chords used most commonly in accompaniment and the basis of harmony. Chords I, IV and V.
