4 Researching Chemistry Flashcards
1
Q
Methods for collection of gases
A
- collection over water (for relatively insoluble gases or where a dry sample of gas is not required)
- collection using a gas syringe (for soluble gases or where a dry sample of gas is required)
2
Q
Volumetric analysis general practice
A
- volume markings on beakers provide only a rough indication of volume
- measuring cylinders generally provided sufficient accuracy for preparation work, but for analytic work, burettes, pipettes and volumetric flasks are more appropriate
3
Q
Separating a mixture of liquids with different boiling points
A
Simple distillation using a flask, condenser and suitable heat source
