aquinas and analogy
aquinas’ theory of analogical predication holds that, since god created the universe, there must be some link between human attributes or predicated (loving, powerful, knowledgeable etc) -> aquinas identified analogy of attribution and analogy of proportion
analogy of attribution
something of what is ‘good’ means in relation to the creator of human beings, god. simply, god has whatever it takes to produce human goodness
analogy of proportion
aquinas says ‘a human father loved in the way ad sense appropriate to human fathers and God loves in the way and sense appropriate to God’ - but if we dont already know what god is, how do we know what it means to say that god loves in an appropriate way to god?
