What is a map?

A

On my opposite representation Or a drawing of the Earth surface or a part of it drawn on a flat surface according to scale. Note that it is impossible to flaton around shape like earth completely.

What are the three types of maps?

A
  1. Physical Maps: maps showing natural features of the earth such as mountains, plateaus, planes, rivers, oceans, etc are called physical or relief maps.
  2. Political Maps: map showing cities, towns, and villages, and different countries, and states of the world with their boundaries are called political maps.
  3. Thematic Maps: maps focusing on specific information such as road maps, rainfall maps, map showing distribution of forests, Industries, et cetera are known as thematic maps.

What is a scale of a map?

A

Scale is the ratio between the actual distance on the ground and the distance shown on the map. Small scale maps have larger areas like continents or countries, and large scale maps have small areas like villages or towns.

What are the components of maps?

A

Distance, direction, and symbols. Distance between 2 points on a map can be found using the scale of the map.
Directions on a map can be found using the Cardinal Points displayed on the map.
Symbols on a map show different features such as buildings, roads, bridges, trees, or Railway lines. Conventional symbols are used for this purpose.

What is a sketch in maps?

A

A sketch is a drawing mainly based on memory and spot observation and not to scale. It is a rough drawing of an area to tell where a particular place is located with respect to other places.
